  • What areas does NorthStar serve?

NorthStar Student Services is currently licensed to serve school districts in Illinois, California, and Michigan. We deliver most services virtually, which means we can support districts across these states regardless of location. On-site services may be available depending on proximity.

  • How do virtual evaluations work?

Virtual evaluations are conducted through secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platforms. A trained facilitator or school staff member is present with the student on-site while the school psychologist administers assessments remotely. This model has been used successfully across multiple states and produces the same quality results as in-person evaluations.

  • What types of evaluations does NorthStar conduct?

We conduct initial psychoeducational evaluations, 3-year reevaluations, behavioral assessments (FBAs), and provide MTSS consultation. Our evaluation batteries typically include cognitive, academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and adaptive skill assessments as needed for each case.

  • How long does it take to get a report?

Reports are typically delivered within two weeks of completing testing, or right before the scheduled ETR/IEP meeting — whichever comes first. We work closely with your team to meet compliance timelines.

  • Can NorthStar attend IEP meetings?

Yes. We can participate in planning meetings, ETR meetings, and IEP meetings virtually. The level of involvement is up to your district — we can handle the entire case or just the portions you need support with.

  • How does contracting with NorthStar work?

It starts with a free consultation where we learn about your district's needs. From there, we set up a simple contract with your Special Education Director or supervisor. Once signed, we can begin scheduling evaluation sessions immediately. Visit our For School Districts page for the full step-by-step process.

  • I'm a school psychologist — can I join NorthStar's team?

Yes! We're actively looking for credentialed school psychologists to join as 1099 contractors. You'll need an active state credential, experience with psychoeducational evaluations, and comfort with virtual assessment platforms. Visit our For School Psychologists page to learn more and apply.
